Icarus

Many of our modern conveniences that we look to as hallmarks of our progress were in some way or another invented in antiquity. Flight, for example, was first invented by Daedalus as a method to escape imprisonment with his son Icarus. Flying away from the fortress, he warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, who did anyway.
